GBA Girls Baseball

Following successful clinics and a showcase tournament, GBA is proud to announce an enhanced commitment to growing girls baseball in our area and beyond.

Boys and girls are welcome to register for any GBA program. However, we recognize special circumstances may limit some girls from participating. Greenfield Baseball is excited to explore welcoming ways to improve the participation of girls in baseball. Under the "GBA Rockets" umbrella, we will aim high to expand clinic, team, and tournament opportunities targeted and formatted especially for girls.

Local girls should register as Rockets. We also offer a free agent program (Comets) for out-of-town players, especially for those looking for travel opportunities. Email any questions to Emily Pocratsky, EmilySLilly@gmail.com

Upcoming Events

Spring Registration

Coming soon for ages 5 to 13! This is the link to our spring registration store and you may register your player there starting November 28th. The cost for spring will be $20 and will include a shirt and hat. You will be able to indicate your committment level. In order to grow the program, we welcome any girl interested to register. We will have clinics, and are in the process of arranging games with another local league. If we have enough girls register at each division, we will be able to make more teams and therefore have more games. The spring program will be heavy in the early spring (March and April) so as not to interfere with other committments (such as a softball season) girls may have. In all clinics and practices, there will be an emphasis on pitcher development. The spring season will be supplemental; players who wish to have a full season with regular games against a variety of teams should also sign up for the regular rec league.

Steel City Showcase

Our September 2025 Steel City Showcase was a huge success! We welcomed the Ohio Valley Valkyries and Philly Girls Baseball to Hammer Field for a 12U tournament. We are thankful to the players who traveled far and wide (including from Buffalo, Toronto, Virginia, and New Jersey) to play against our Rockets. Check out the slideshow for a bunch of great photo highlights!

FAQs

Do you have a formal girls baseball team?

Yes, we currently have enough registered players for a 12U Rockets team, and we are growing at other levels. We have had good participation in clinics and our pre-season program, and would like to add girls teams in the future, ideally as part of Pittsburgh CitiSports.

Why girls baseball and not GBA softball?

Because baseball is what GBA does best. We have a long tradition of baseball in the community, with a built-in thriving rec program that welcomes girls to participate. Our coaches have excellent experience with baseball and our t-ball and coach pitch registrants are especially co-ed, but girls participation levels drop significantly by age 8.

Are you anti-softball?

No way! Softball is an exciting, great sport. Just like many of our players play multiple sports like hockey, basketball, and football, we would encourage our girls who play to explore all opportunities, including softball, if they like. You can play in a different local softball league and still attend our GBA Rockets events.

So...why girls baseball at all?

Girls and women have always played baseball, but team opportunities have been limited through history. We aim to promote and improve girls' and women's participation in our national pasttime so everyone can experience the game we love. We recognize that being on a team with peers is often the best part, and we want to provide girls a chance for the same commaraderie so often found on boy-dominated teams.

Why the Rockets?

Because we want to aim high, and swing for the stars even if it's hard. We hope girls who participate in our program learn not only baseball, but build character, strength, determination, and resilience. GBA Rockets will not replace, alter, or limit other GBA leagues or teams.

What ages should attend Rockets events?

Past events have been for ages 5 to 12. That age range is subject to change based on interest.
